Flame retardant foam made of Levapren®

Flame retardant foam made of Levapren®

Levapren® foams with excellent pore depth

As an elastic and "soft" version of the "conventional" thermoplastic EVA, Levapren® is the ideal choice for manufacturing soft foams with excellent shock absorbing properties which can be specially adapted to customer requirements.

At a glance
  • Ideal for the production of high quality soft foams
  • Outstanding shock absorbing characteristics to satisfy individual customer requirements
  • Blends of Levapren® and EVA are far superior to pure EVA
  • Lower foam densities easy to produce
  • Low hardnesses and low compression set

Detailed studies prove that Levapren® foams or blends of Levapren® and EVA (such as Levapren® 800 HV with 80 percent VA and EVA with 18 percent VA) are far superior in many practical aspects to products made of pure EVA. Levapren® foams are substantially softer than EVA products with the same structure in all other respects. With foamed Levapren®, the blowing agent and crosslinking agent contents in the raw mixture can often be adjusted to produce material characteristics which would be impossible for EVA. Levapren® foams are therefore streets ahead of their EVA equivalents when it comes to softness and the low level of foam density that can be achieved.

Both Levapren® and Levapren®-EVA blends slightly increase the hardness and density of foamed vulcanizates with increasing peroxide content thanks to the higher crosslinking density, though the increase is much lower than with pure EVA. Even with an increasing crosslinking agent content, the measured hardnesses and densities are significantly below those of EVA foam. The compression set of Levapren® foams or Levapren®-EVA blends can easily be set to the familiar level for EVA through a relevant peroxide content. Increasing levels of blowing agents reduce the density of the vulcanizates, but have only a marginal effect on their hardness and compression set.
